Start of Semester Checklist Fall 2016

We’re excited that you would like to join the UMBC Sailing Team! If you have not yet contacted our President Lars Sobieski please send him an email letting him know that you would like to join the team.

Everything you need to know before your first practice is explained below.

ACCESSING THE MEMBERS TAB- You will need access to the members tab of this website in order to sign up for practices and regattas and to view other important team information. The tab is password protected so only UMBC sailing members can access it. If you do not already know the password contact our president Lars Sobieski. All of the officers’ contact information can be found here in the contact tab.

UMBC CLUB SPORTS REGISTRATION & TEAM POLICIES- You must register with UMBC Club Sports via this link before you will be allowed to sail. You will need your insurance information to do this. If you do not have medical insurance please contact our president Lars Sobieski before your first practice.

Make sure to review our team policies which can be found under the members tab so that you are familiar with them.

DUES- Dues are 60 dollars per semester and are due prior to the second practice you attend. Dues are 40 dollars for sailors returning for a second semester for a total of 100 dollars per year. Please submit your dues to our captain Lars Sobieski via cash or check made payable to UMBC Sailing Club Sports Team. If you decide that you no longer wish to sail with us after attending your first practice you are not obligated to pay dues. Once you have paid you will be added to the team roster and will be allowed to sign up for regattas.

PRACTICES- Practices are held Wednesday and Saturday (unless a regatta overlaps with a Saturday practice) If you need to be late and/or cannot stay the full time you may leave early as long as you can provide your own transportation. We practice out of Annapolis Sailing School (click for directions) and will be meeting in the parking lot on the picnic tables. WEAR CLOSED TOED SHOES- the parking lot is gravel and is part of a working marina. If you do not have your own coast guard approved PFD you will be provided one. We will be sailing a fleet of FJ dinghies.

To sign up for practices you need to ask our president Lars Sobieski to add you to the Practice Schedule. If there are not enough boats to accommodate everyone alternates may ride along in the coach boat and be switched out throughout the practice.

TO SIGN UP FOR REGATTAS- You must be a due paying member who regularly attends practices.. Refer to the Team Policies document under the members tab for cancellation procedures.

TRANSPORTATION- When you sign up for practices please indicate whether or not you need transportation. Carpool options will be available for members who do. Members are permitted to provide their own transportation to practice.
Transportation to regattas is different for each regatta so refer to the senior officer attending.

CONTACT INFORMATION- Please add you contact information to the “team contacts” google doc found in the members tab.
